Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) continues construction of the New NY Bridge the week of April 14. This construction includes pile driving operations between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, and between noon and 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
A second shift of workers continues to work on permanent foundation piles, while an additional second shift continues welding work on those permanent foundation piles.
Marine crews are working from the shorelines of Rockland and Westchester counties, moving outward to place permanent foundation piles. Work also continues closer to the shorelines on both the Rockland and Westchester temporary work trestles, and includes pile driving to install the temporary foundation piles needed to support the platform. The trestles are work platforms that will support cranes for the construction of the eastern- and western-most sections of the new bridge.

Mariners should be aware that TZC will continue installing permanent piles in the vicinity of the side channels under the existing bridge, weather permitting. Additional temporary navigational lights have been installed to further define the 600-foot navigation channel under the main span. Both temporary and permanent piles are illuminated at night.
The U.S. Coast Guard has extended its Regulated Navigation Area (RNA) around the project site to 500 yards north and 500 yards south of the existing bridge. Boaters are advised to proceed with no wake at a maximum speed of five knots in this area, and to transit the main channel when traveling between the north and south sides of the bridge. The RNA also allows the Coast Guard to limit or prohibit marine traffic in those areas if necessary. The New York State Thruway Authority and TZC have also applied for a new safety zone around the 16 construction barge mooring locations at the site. No vessel traffic will be allowed in the safety zone.
