Update: Weekday Overnight Lane Closures Begin Tuesday Work Scheduled to Occur Near Bridge Landings

Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) will begin demolition activities of the old bridge’s Westchester landing and abutment this week.

The work follows the shift of the southbound/eastbound traffic lanes on the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) to the first span of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge last Friday evening.

Demolition activities will require the use of machines to break pavement and cut deck panels near the Tappan Zee Bridge’s abutment. TZC will utilize noise abatement measures in the area and continue to monitor noise and vibration levels as work continues.

The initial effort will require multiple overnight lane closures of southbound/eastbound lanes from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9). Specific lane and ramp closure times are listed in the chart below.
