Work associated with the upcoming realignment of southbound/eastbound traffic lanes on the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) will require an additional overnight lane closure tonight, beginning as early as 8 p.m. The single lane closure from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to the Tappan Zee Bridge will conclude by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12.
On Wednesday night, Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) will realign southbound/eastbound traffic lanes on the Thruway near exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W). During the overnight operation, the lanes will be shifted approximately 30 feet south, allowing TZC to safely accomplish drainage work in the area and prepare for future operations. The new alignment is anticipated to remain throughout the year.
The realignment will require lane closures of up to three southbound/eastbound lanes from exit 11 to the Tappan Zee Bridge.
At least one lane will remain open at all times during the Wednesday night operation, with the exception of a single traffic stop during the overnight. The stop of all four lanes of the southbound/eastbound Thruway from exit 11 to the Tappan Zee Bridge is expected to last up to 10 minutes. To ensure the public’s safety, the New York State Police will stop and hold all traffic approaching the area immediately before the traffic stop goes into effect.
All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday, April 13.
The operation will also necessitate closing the southbound/eastbound Thruway exit 10 on-ramp from South Broadway and Cornelison Avenue during the overnight of Wednesday, April 12. Motorists will be directed to use the on-ramp from Route 59 in Nyack, as shown in the graphic below. The on-ramp will reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday, April 13. The exit 10 off-ramp will remain accessible from the northbound Thruway.
