Soil Test Blast Set Near Tappan Zee Bridge

June 13, 2012

Test Scheduled for Friday Morning, June 15

NYACK – People in the vicinity of the Tappan Zee Bridge on Friday, June 15, may hear a one-time noise from a small test detonation that is part of the ongoing examination of the Hudson River sub-bottom conditions, the New York State Thruway Authority announced.

Sometime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Friday, workers near the Rockland County shore will set off the detonation to create a vibration that will measure soil stability in the bed of the river.

This testing is part of the preliminary work for the new Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project.

Traffic on the Tappan Zee Bridge will not be affected. However, marine traffic on the Hudson River will be halted within a 500-foot buffer zone during the actual test.
