The Winter 2017 edition of the New NY Bridge magazine is out and it showcases the project’s many outstanding achievements during the past year and looks ahead to upcoming construction.
This issue features the completion of the eight main span towers, described by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo as “a powerful message to the world that nothing is too big or too difficult for the Empire State.”
Project Director Jamey Barbas provides an update on what was accomplished in 2016 and what’s to come this year. The new stay cable system, which is comprised of more than 700 miles of high-strength steel strands, is explained in detail. Striking aerial photography, graphic illustrations and interviews with some of the people building the twin-span bridge are also highlighted in the 12-page glossy magazine.
Readers will also learn about the new bridge’s high-tech Structural Health Monitoring System, which will provide an astonishing amount of data to help the Thruway Authority safeguard its investment. The information will further ensure that the bridge will not require major repairs for at least 100 years.
The issue is now available online to read or download. Free print editions also are available at the project’s outreach centers, located at 142 Main St. in Nyack and 2 North Broadway in Tarrytown. The outreach centers are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
