Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) is one step closer to completing the twin-span crossing as the new bridge’s westbound towers reach their ultimate height, 419 feet above the Hudson River. Crews are putting the finishing touches on the upper sections of the towers and removing the blue jump forms when the operations are complete. TZC is scheduled to complete all four westbound towers within the coming weeks.
As the towers near completion, main span road deck work and installation of the stay cable system are advancing. The stay cables are comprised of numerous metal strands, tightly packed in a protective sheath. After the initial installation process, TZC installs additional strands inside the sheath to provide further strength.
On the approaches, the final sections of steel girder assemblies are being placed by the project’s super crane. The project team also continues to set precast road deck panels atop the girders.
Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC is chronicling this and other construction progress with still photography and video shot from land, water and air. Those interested in a closer look are invited to visit the New NY Bridge construction viewing platforms at Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park in Tarrytown or at Memorial Park in Nyack.
