The latest project gallery update showcases the latest efforts on the eastbound span’s roadway near the Rockland shoreline, including the installation of the project’s final steel girder.
Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) began placing the new twin-span bridge’s structural steel girders in spring 2015 and has since installed more than 220 million pounds of all-American steel on the 3.1-mile crossing.
With the eastbound span fully connected by steel, TZC continues to prepare its base driving surface. While most of the base is formed from precast concrete deck panels, some roadway sections require the on-site installation of galvanized rebar and newly mixed concrete. The project gallery shows this latest effort, as workers utilize an extendable delivery arm from a mobile concrete batch plant.
