The New NY Bridge team greeted goblins, pirates, princesses, and other trick-or-treaters—along with their parents—at the Sleepy Hollow annual Halloween block party and Nyack’s annual Halloween parade on Halloween weekend. At both events, team members distributed candy and information about the New NY Bridge project.
Attendees were drawn to the information tables by a colorful, scale model of the project’s twin spans adorned with hundreds of gum drops, chocolate bars, peanut butter cups, and other sweets. The playful candy replica of the New NY Bridge was especially popular with kids.
Art of the Bridge
During the Halloween events, the New NY Bridge team encouraged local children, ages 5 to 10, to use their imaginations and show what they think the new bridge will look like. The young Rembrandts used crayons and markers to create drawings with striking resemblance to the current design of the bridge. Others, who might have been inspired by Pablo Picasso, took more creative license, drawing inspiration from other bridges in the area.
The New NY Bridge team will continue to seek the design advice of Rockland’s and Westchester’s youngest citizens throughout the five-year project.
