Construction Continues At Bridge Landings Paving of Side Path in South Nyack Scheduled for Next Week

May 3, 2019

Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) is scheduled to continue work near the bridge landings in Rockland and Westchester counties, including the construction of the shared bicycle and pedestrian path, the Thruway Authority maintenance facility and State Police building.

At the Rockland Landing, the section of Esposito Trail from Clinton Avenue and South Franklin Street to South Nyack Village Hall is scheduled to close Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 7, for the paving of the side path, weather permitting. The side path is adjacent to the Esposito Trail, which will remain unpaved. Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured to South Broadway and through Elizabeth Place Park.

Additionally, crews will continue to construct new curb and sidewalk from Lowland Drive approximately 500 feet north of South Franklin St. Extension.

On the bridge, TZC will continue to install glass panels on the northern side of the westbound span for the path’s overlooks and work on the path’s barrier.

At the Westchester Landing, construction continues at the terminus site walls, storage building, visitor pavilion and canopy area. Operations include excavation, and the placement of sub-base, conduit and vapor barrier.

Additional work includes:

  • Landscaping, excavation, pouring concrete, installing precast barrier, rebar and tension mesh near bridge landings
  • Internal work and paving at the New York State Thruway Maintenance and New York State Police facilities
  • Dismantling of the old bridge, weather permitting

Boater Safety
Periodic partial closures of the main navigation channel may be necessary, as TZC continues to dismantle the Tappan Zee Bridge’s west anchor span and salvage the collapsed east anchor span. Cranes, barges and other equipment may occupy parts of the channel during this time. Boaters are strongly encouraged to avoid the project site during the closures and to avoid the Regulated Navigation Areas, located east and west of the main channel.

Times and dates of the potential, partial closures are subject to change and will appear in the U.S. Coast Guard’s weekly Notice to Mariners; on the project’s Twitter feed (@NewNYBridge); and broadcast on Marine Radio Channel 22A. Tappan Zee Constructors can be contacted via Marine Radio Channel 16 for assistance.

Rockland and Westchester marine units continue to patrol the project site.
