Thruway Authority Acting Executive Director Bill Finch meets with members of the New NY Bridge project team, which collected toys, clothes, and other gifts for children as part of “Project Joy,” a program run by People to People in Rockland County.

The New NY Bridge project team is supporting local charities to make the holidays a little more joyous for those in need in our communities.

Members of the New York State Thruway Authority team “adopted” five families as part of “Project Joy,” a gift-giving program run by People to People that helps close to 900 families each year. People to People, a nonprofit agency, also operates the largest food pantry in Rockland County.

Staff collected toys, clothes, electronic devices, books and gift cards that 10 children had put on their wish lists. Extra gifts went to children whose families weren’t adopted.

“There is a reason People to People calls this program ‘Project Joy’ because of the true joy it brings to so many families that struggle all year long to just put food on their tables,” said Diane Serratore, People to People’s Executive Director. “We couldn’t possibly put smiles on the faces of thousands of children from low-income families if it weren’t for the support of the entire community, including the wonderful folks from the New NY Bridge project. We are all in this together and for that I am incredibly grateful.”

Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) is donating to the Pajama Program, a national not-for-profit organization that provides new, warm pajamas and new books to children in need. TZC is currently collecting winter weather appropriate long sleeve and long pants pajamas for newborns and children up to 18 years old.

The Pajama Program began in 2001, bringing nightly bedtime rituals like fresh pajamas, storybooks and a quality good night’s sleep to children everywhere. The organization strives to create a sense of security and stability for these youngsters, who may not know the comforts of being tucked in after a long day.

TZC will continue to collect donations for the Pajama Program through January. For more information, visit pajamaprogram.org.

The project team is grateful for the opportunity to help this holiday season. We wish you and yours a safe and joyful holiday!
