The New NY Bridge team is reaching out to New York firms, suppliers and subcontractors – particularly disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) – to aid construction efforts. DBEs are defined by the U.S Department of Transportation as small businesses that are owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals such as women, minorities, veterans or disabled persons.
Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) has a 10 percent DBE goal, which equates to $314 million in contract expenditures with DBE firms over the duration of the project. To date, $70.1 million in commitments have been made, leaving ample opportunity for new firms to benefit from the New NY Bridge project.
To assist with recruitment, TZC re-launched its website with several enhancements aimed at helping DBEs and other local firms secure contracts with the project. The updated website, TappanZeeConstructors.com, features a sortable database of upcoming opportunities as well as a listing of all DBEs working on the project to date.
All firms interested in pursuing subcontracting and supply opportunities on the New NY Bridge must register as vendors with TZC to be considered. Registered vendors are added to TZC’s database, which is used to source services, materials and supplies for the project. These firms will receive regular email updates on project subcontracting opportunities from the TZC team.
Since January, TZC has hosted an ongoing series of monthly business orientation meetings where firms can meet with project representatives. Held on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m., the events are designed to help businesses understand how to gain access to contract opportunities on the project.
The next two meetings will be on July 9 and August 13, 2014, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown. Subcontractors can register to attend the business orientation by emailing Procurement@TZC-LLC.com
